Quick update on the rescues and volunteers.
Bubbles, the younger. The young pigeon that was starving outside is growing and eating and throwing seed happily everywhere. She, we’re pretty sure that’s the gender, so maybe they is better for now. They are a sucker for bath time and flax seeds. Unlike my other pigeon, Biscuit, they also love toys and puzzles. It’s a good thing the cage doors are unable to be opened from the inside. They’re faring well and settling in to living with us humans.
Biscuit, the elder. She’s doing great and I still believe her to be the wisest of birds since she chose to walk into our home because it was too cold and wet outside. She is really unsure about whether Bubbles is a good presence or not. But, as any good pigeon would, she is happy to steal Bubbles’ food at any moment. She is less about tossing seed and is very insistent that her cage is extremely clean. Yes she likes to sit on top of my head. I have no idea why.
Sir Sunshine, the tiny. Sir Sunshine is the parakeet that needed a new home. He seems to be very happy. This is my impression due to the large amount of chirping, bouncing in place and chewing on things. He’s a blue and yellow parakeet that doesn’t really understand baths but a shower from the plant mister is always welcome and accompanied with much preening.
A new lost white pigeon appeared outside yesterday. We haven’t seen it since but it has a plastic leg band and I keep hoping that it will come back and walk into our oh so not stealthy pigeon trap. That’s a wire dog crate with seed inside and an open door. There’s a local hawk that prowls the area but nothing much I can do except try and get the suburban bird to safety. The streets are no place for a lone white bird raised in captivity. Maybe the street birds will help it learn their ways. It’s one of those areas where my lack of god-like powers means I can only do so much.
