It’s Monday

Where’s my abundance? Where’s my phone?

Monday morning might be the poster child for lack. We need to find our motivation for the day ahead, not to mention the entire week ahead. It’s such a common problem that motivational Monday quotes and meetings pepper our work places. Every Monday morning is the younger sibling of the New Year’s resolution. It’s about what we don’t have, and what we don’t already do; it’s about what we lack.

Where is my abundance on Monday morning? It’s still here of course, but I’m not looking at it. I’m looking at a hill. It’s a hill I am supposed to climb. Sometimes I want to climb the hill, but only sometimes. Is there a reward I value at the top of the hill? Maybe. Did I choose the hill? Also maybe. Does any of that read as abundant? Of course not. What is abundance and what does it look like?

What did our days off, if we had them, get us? Did we see something that inspired us? Did we rest? Did we do something that brightened our world? Each of those things increase our abundance. But, how do they apply to this hill staring down at us? They certainly don’t seem to apply first thing in the morning before the first cup of coffee. Let’s look again at that hill.

It’s a hill. There’s always a hill. How many hills have we already climbed? We have conquered just as many hills as we have climbed. When do we add the conquest to our abundance? At the top. Where’s my abundance? At the top. Get climbing. Bring your generosity along and share the abundance from your days off where it fits. It will usually make the climb a little less of a struggle and sometimes we might even have company. Abundance is meant to be shared.
